Accreditation and Exemption

Carolina Theological Seminary is exempt as a Theological Institution in the State of South Carolina.
CITATION FOR EXEMPTION. The South Carolina Commission on Higher Education is the licensing authority for private postsecondary education under the provisions of the Nonpublic Postsecondary Institution License Act, Chapter 58 of Title 59, South Carolina Code of Laws, 1976, as amended. Section 59-58-30 of the law states that the definition of a “nonpublic educational institution” does not include “(4) Institutions whose sole purpose is religious or theological training.”
The US Department of Education (USDE) reviews and recognizes accrediting agencies. Accreditation by a USDE-recognized accrediting agency is one criterion for institutional eligibility for Federal funds. Another indicator of credibility for accrediting agencies is membership with the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA). CHEA is a nongovernmental organization that evaluates and recognizes the work of its member accrediting agencies. Beware of institutions that publish accreditation by an agency that is not recognized by USDE or CHEA.
Carolina Theological Seminary is not an accredited institution and in no way should be perceived as granting accredited degrees or certificates for employment or any other purpose. We are strictly a theological training institution and hold to the freedom to preach and teach our beliefs without oversight of the government or any other board of oversight. Our accountability is to the local church, to God, and His inerrant Word.

Transferability of Credits

Credits earned at Carolina Theological Seminary may not transfer to another educational institution. Credits earned at another educational institution may not be accepted by Carolina Theological Seminary. You should obtain confirmation that Carolina Theological Seminary will accept any credits you have earned at another educational institution before you execute an enrollment contract or agreement. You should also contact any educational institutions that you may want to transfer credits earned at Carolina Theological Seminary to determine if such institutions will accept credits earned at Carolina Theological Seminary prior to executing an enrollment contract or agreement. The ability to transfer credits from Carolina Theological Seminary to another educational institution may be very limited. Your credits may not transfer and you may have to repeat courses previously taken at Carolina Theological Seminary if you enroll in another educational institution. You should never assume that credits will transfer to or from any educational institution. It is highly recommended and you are advised to make certain that you know the transfer of credit policy of Carolina Theological Seminary and of any other educational institutions you may in the future want to transfer the credits earned at Carolina Theological Seminary before you execute an enrollment contract or agreement.
